Tim Ball analyzes the following excerpt from the CBC
Web piece “Global
warming explained”
“Eleven of the highest average global annual temperatures
recorded since 1861 have come in the past 12 years.”
By Dr. Ball:
There is confusion here. The Goddard Institute of Space
Studies (GISS), the authority for global temperatures,
were advised of an error in their calculations for US
data. They very quietly changed the data so that 1934
became the warmest year in the record, not 1998. It also
changed the claim that 9 of the 10 warmest years were
in the most recent decade. It also changes the global
numbers because U.S. data dominates the world data as
evidenced by the density of the stations in the U.S. as
indicated in the following map.
